Teaching can be a wonderful experience. It exposes one to techniques and situations never before conceived. It also exposes one to the pure innocence of children.
I was one the mat last week and one of my junior students in my kids class came up to me and asked:
" Ummm...sensei.....what happens if I have to pass gas while on the mat?"
I grinned from ear to ear and said : Well Mark, you'll just have to excuse your self and go to the edge of the mat."
He looked up at me and said " Yeah....um....some moves make me toot."
Ah....just one of those rare moments of laughter and joy on the mat.
Please share your funny kid or adult stories here.
cheers

One of the other nights sensei said that passing gas is not bad,
it a sign that you are relaxed in the abdomen.
While being uke for him,we both ended up in in a low stance,
he announced that a wind was on the way,
and I had time to add that i was in the same situation,
so we let it go while finishing the technique !
This may be the beginning of a new style called Aiki-wind-do".

I asked one of my kids aikido classes here what aikido was - one word or an animal (kids have good vocab for this). Responses (badly translated from Portuguese):
light
funny
fun
kind
creative
strong
disciplined
cool
butterfly
lion
monkey
hummingbird (flower kisser literally here!!!)
dolphin
tiger
kitten
(animals more to do with who the kids are I think :-)
Listening to kids rocks!

Saw a kid who was 3 or maybe 4 standing looking at a mirror with a very pleased expression on his face. He turned and saw me and said 'I'm here, but I'm over there as well... aren't I clever!'
