Aikido Socks?

Has anyone here ever herd of Aikido socks?
I know I came across them a long time ago but I cannot remember where. I certainly would like feedback on anyone who has used them. Also if anyone knows where to get them, that would be smashing. We have a students who could benefit from them.

The only thing I can think of that could possibly be called 'Aikido socks' would be the split toe Tabi socks that can be worn with thongs (flip flops for you non-Aussies :))

They can probably be bought at martial arts supply shops, do a google search on 'Tabi Socks' and you'll get plenty of results.

There's a saying:
'In Australia, a group of people in black rubber thongs isn't as interesting as it sounds' :yuck:

Some bright spark probably looked at it and said 'hey, that looks like a thong for your foot'. When speaking to other people I try to use flip flop or jandle... saves on what could turn into a horrible misunderstanding :D

I was sure I seen some socks before that had some sorta grips on the bottom of them so they could be worn on matts and you wouldent slip.

I think they were also tabi ones.

If you can find them, the matching socks that Nike makes for its Air Rift line of shoes are the best tabi socks I've encountered.

They're actually up to Western standards of softness, elasticity and absorbency, something I haven't found in any Japanese brand.

But they're not easy to find....

p.s. Follow their measuring instructions carefully and don't forget the cotton tabi will shrink when washed.

People here talk about tabi socks, but why not about tabi themselves? I've actually heard of a dojo where they used tabi. Osensei is wearing tabi on some of the old films... Cotton tabi with leather underneath should work fine. I don't think they are easy to find, though.

If you're not after tabi ones, could you use slipper socks?
