Soccer to our American friends.
I was watching some of the matches and I see many aiki techniques done on the players.... it makes me wonder if 'em footballers (soccerers, is there such a word???) are secretly trained aikidoka?
Eg. 1:
David Beckam was Deashi Barai'ed by a Paraguayan in the match. I think David did a wonderful yoko ukemi. And the Paraguayan Deashi Barai was almost Mifune' eque like...
Eg 2:
Many of the tackles resemble Yoshinkan kokyu nage. I think one player (could not remember which one) was shown a red card for a double leg tackle... that tackle would have made Kancho Shioda proud.
I saw some very well executed Ushiro-ate on the players, I have yet to see a beautifully applied Shomen-ate yet.
So people, if you do see any recognizable martial techniques on the playing field, do add on. Thanks.
Viva la Soccer er... Football I mean
Boon.

Any time I watch football, i see a lot of "no touch" aikido. Must be a lot of ki in them feet. Or perhaps some very excited uke.
Go Japan!
