Help! new AikiWiki page: Japanese words

I've created a new AikiWiki page containing what I hope is a fairly comprehensive list of Aikido-related Japanese words. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find translations for many of them. Anyone who can help complete this page, please do!

Hi Edward,

Although I appreciate your efforts, may I please ask you to extend or expand upon the already existing "General Vocabulary" pages in the AikiWiki? Many of the words that you are trying to define are already included there with individual pages to each word (so as to allow easy linking to a word inter-wiki or from outside).

I've added what I can. Some things need context to properly translate.

Also, we should probably decide on a standard romanization system to account for long vowels. Including the original Japanese would be good, too, although I'm not sure how Jun wants to do encoding for that...

Edit: Or, we can go with Jun has already set up...! :D

Jun, the reason I started a new page is that I wanted one that had brief definitions right on the page, instead of having to click each work to get its definition. Also, it seems kind of silly to have to click on a word like "ichi" just to find out it means "one". I don't mind combining them into one page if you don't mind having brief definitions there. I emphasize "brief": any word that needs more than a short sentence to describe it should have its own dedicated page.

Shall I move the contents of my new "Japanese words" page into the old "vocabulary" page?

Hi Edward,

One thing I would rather avoid in the AikiWiki is duplication of information. Having two separate sections for vocabulary in the AikiWiki

So, yes, I would prefer having separate pages for even one word "definitions," as there is a possibility that even such short definitions may merit longer descriptions in the future.

Just as a test, I went and wrote a quick script that basically coallates all of the terms listed in the general vocabular (http://www.aikiweb.com/wiki/generalvocabulary) list into one page:

This way, we can have preserve the "one term/definition per page" approach that I prefer as well as have a single, combined page with all of the terms.

If people have any thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing them....

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying that you are unable to see the kanji representations of the terms? The kanji characters for "ai hanmi" and "ai uchi," at least, seem OK to me on the AikiWiki page you reference.

Thank you for the information. I've updated the page for "ai hanmi" to include the other way of writing the kanji (while keeping the original, as many Japanese sites use the "ai" as in "aikido" in "ai hanmi").

Please note that as those vocabulary pages are in the AikiWiki, all AikiWeb members can (and are encouraged to) edit the pages so as to improve them for everyone.
