So, I've picked up the brush again for the first time since Lily was born. Ikenaga-sensei kindly taught me how to write my daughter's Japanese middle name. It felt great!

So after three months of no class due to taking care of my darling daughter, I'm back on the mat! It felt really good to be at Iaido today, and it made me realize how much I miss martial arts, and Aikido in particular... Still.. first things first, I need to get back into my routine!

Zazen felt pretty damned good today - although I got more numb than usual. In addition, I found that my wrists are pretty stiff these days - that will be rough to deal with if/when I ever get back to Aikido.

Now if I can only get back to calligraphy class.. and get that new job.

Thanks for the well-wishes... she is so cute! Mom and baby are doing fine, but we're all really tired.

So, apparently, my stance is supposed to be wide, but not immobile... lol Ok, so how do I keep my nice mobile short stance but make it longer and also change my foot position?

So I need to let the blade clear the saiya completely... And that short stance that I worked on for so long in Aikido? It needs to be long.

Preparations are ramping up. Shodo classes are still ongoing, and it was good to get back to Iaido this weekend after a brief hiatus. I'll signs are go!

So.. starting Shodo (calligraphy) with my wife, and the Iaido continues. Still, I miss Aikido. We'll see what happens with this job, and also with Hawaii... and of course, with January! I'm not sure when I'll get back to Aikido, but I'm still learning things relevent to it I suppose. Still, ganbarimasu!

A Canticle for Lebowitz... brilliant! The first thing in a long time since I was reading those articles about Charlemagne to add new ideas to my thoughts on Catholicism. It needs further study.

Oh yeah, I must admit the Earthseed books brought in new material as well, but on religion in general.

Now that I've read it, I need to rewatch the Clockwork Orange, too.

So today was my first Iaido class with an actual Iaito.

What a difference!

It seems that there is so much that I need to work on all the time. Ah well, I guess that's how I know that I'm learning.

With regards to my other training, when I walk down the street, I pull from the center and leave the rest follow slightly behind. I'm still trying to get my center to drive my arm movements, but my posture seems to be improving.

In addition, when I was sitting zazen today, my leg didn't get as numb. I really need to work on being able to sit half or full lotus though instead of indian style.

So I found a new way to train and have fun... simply stand in the ocean and let the waves (post-crash) sweep through me, and try to keep my footing/structure. If necessary, allow the wave to shift me.

I'm in pain from it today, that's for sure.
