Doka of the Day - May 5, 2016
Causing the perverted enemy to attack,
I must then stand behind his form
And so cut the enemy down.

Publication: Atemi: The Thunder and Lightning of Aikido
Posted 5/01/2016 6:47pm [from Ken Jeremiah]

A new book by Walther von Krenner, a direct student of O-Sensei (Ueshiba Morihei) Atemi: The Thunder and Lightning of Aikido is the most comprehensive text on striking in Aikido, and it begins with the notion that strikes should not be disregarded in modern dojo; the founder himself said that Aikido is 75 percent strikes. The book explores the mistaken yet common notion of atemi as a secondary aspect of Aikido, and argues that such an idea is incorrect, since O-Sensei’s own teachings reveal that striking is the very core of the art.

Posted 4/18/2016 12:29pm [from joe curran]

Dear All, I have recently heard that Peter Megann, the ex General Secretary of the British Aikido Federation passed away recently. As the General Secretary of the B.A.F it is fair to say that in this role he played a big part in the running of the B.A.F. I was not a close friend of Peter however on hearing the news of his demise I felt that another erstwhile colleague sadly is no longer with the aikido fraternity/I send my condolences to his son Alex, his family and friends. With Respect, Joe Curran.

Publication: Atemi: The Thunder and Lightning of Aikido
Posted 4/18/2016 12:29pm [from Ken Jeremiah]

Atemi: The Thunder and Lightning of Aikido revisits the source of the art by teaching the striking methods that made Ueshiba’s techniques so effective. It explores the common (yet mistaken) notion of atemi as a secondary aspect of Aikido, and argues that such an idea is incorrect, since O-Sensei’s own teachings reveal that striking is the very core of the art.
