AikiWeb Workshop 2009: March 20-22, 2009 in Seattle WA

AikiWeb is honored to present the AikiWeb Workshop 2009 with George Ledyard sensei, Howard Popkin sensei, and Toby Threadgill sensei to take place on March 20-22, 2009 at the Two Cranes Aikido dojo in Seattle, WA. These three instructors from three different lineages will share their budo experience during this three-day workshop. They will present different but compatible approaches to the physical application of techniques and principles from their arts of Aikido, Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai, and Takamura-ha Shindo Yoshin Ryu. Online Video: Live Streaming Aikido Course Available

October 2nd through October 30th: The Yamato Dojo in Malta will be presenting an Aikido course on the local educative channel, Education Channel22 which is also available live streamed. The course is composed of eight sessions from basic to complicated defences from multiple attacks, documentary and tutorial material from Aikido Head Office Japan, interviews, other related subjects and clips from the recent seminar in Malta June 2008. Information on contents and scheduling can be obtained from dojo website.

Event: Bend Aiki Martial Arts Kids Class Roll-A-Thon, 9/30 in Bend, OR

Bend Aiki Martial Arts (BAMA) in Bend, Oregon is holding it's first annual Roll-A-Thon on Tuesday September the 30th . The kids will be rolling for pledges by the roll or flat donations. We will be handing out prizes for most rolls, most sponsors, best attitude, and of course for not hurling and afterwards have a pizza party. It will be an evening of fun ! All donations will benifit the BAMA Kids Aikido Program which is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

Seminar: Hatayama Shihan (7th dan) in Chicago and Rhode Island, 11/2008

Kengo Hatayama Shihan (7th dan) of Japan will be in the United States in November to teach two seminars. The first is November 6-9 at ShoShinkan Dojo in Cranston, RI to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. The second is November 13-16 at Ryoshinkan Dojo in Palatine, IL (near Chicago). The training is open to students of any martial art or rank, and from any organization or dojo. See the link for pricing and more information. Hatayama Sensei began his Aikido training at the Akita Branch dojo in 1968. He spent from 1978 to early 1981 teaching in West Germany as an assistant to Katsuaki Asai Sensei. He also has the title of Shihan and is the head instructor of Aiki Kenshinkai.

Seminar: Halloween Seminar with William Gleason Sensei in Oberlin

Cleveland Aikikai and Oberlin Aikido Club will host William Gleason Sensei at the Halloween Seminar on October 30th through November 2nd, 2008. The Halloween Seminar in Oberlin will be preceeded by a Special Bonus Class on Thursday, October 30th at the Cleveland Aikikai, 3965 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland Heights OH 44121-2225. The seminar keiko in Oberlin is scheduled as follows: Friday 7 - 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 - 12 p.m. and 3 - 5 p.m.; Sunday 10 - 1 p.m. The cost of the seminar is $100, or $25 per class. The Special Bonus Class on Thursday is $25 paid separately. For information, send an email to aikido.club@oberlin.edu, or call 440.725.9494. Housing available on college campus with prior reservation, or local hotels and B&B. All affiliations are welcome.

This seminar is open to all levels and will include both weapon and empty handed practices in the Aikido style of Takemusu Aikido as taught by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei (9th Dan). This will be the first time that the three of us share the teaching of a seminar like this and we are looking forward to working creatively with each other and sharing our love and understanding of Aikido with the participants. Registration is mandatory as spaces are limited.
